Annual Conference, September 2-4, 2009
Revitalising the Field: Innovation, Rigour and RelevanceIrish Academy of Management Conference September 2-4, 2009 Hosted by: Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology The 12th. Annual Conference of the Irish Academy of Management will once again be held at the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology on September 2-4, 2009. The conference was last held there in 2005 and the feedback was excellent. We are pleased to be returning to Galway for what is likely to be another successful conference. It also makes a nice geographical spread for the conference: Belfast (2006); Cork (2007), Dublin (2008) and Galway in 2009. As before, the conference will be held in the new wing of the GMIT main campus. The event will follow the traditional format, beginning on Wednesday night with a reception, a full day on Thursday with a conference dinner that night, and ending on Friday at lunch. This is the third time that the conference has been hosted in Galway, with NUI-Galway the hosts in 1998. NUI-Galway will however host the doctoral colloquium—this event commences at 1130 hours on Wednesday, September 2 in the J.E. Cairnes Building in NUI-G, and will conclude in time for the opening reception in GMIT that evening. Dr. James Cunningham and Dr. David Collings are leading the colloquium. The theme of the 2009 conference is “Revitalising the Field: Innovation, Rigour and Relevance”. This theme was chosen for a variety of reasons: the recognition of the need to be as innovative as possible in terms of teaching and research; second, the notion that as researchers we should be rigourous in our research effort; finally, both research and teaching should be relevant to many different stakeholders. It is hoped that the theme will encourage debate at the conference on both the teaching and the practice of business. There will also be a special session on the teaching of business studies and we welcome submissions in this area. Dr. Briga Hynes of the University of Limerick and Dr. Denis Harrington of Waterford Institution of Technology are leading this track. Dr. Noel Harvey is again the conference organiser and he can be contacted at noel.harvey@gmit.ie for further information. Papers are invited in a broad range of management disciplines. The deadline for submission of abstracts is March 20, 2009. Authors will be notified by April 10. Full papers are due by June 10. |
